Great Old Books

We have a nice selection of books from as early as 1785 to the 1950s.  Some are rare, some are signed by the author, all are interesting and becoming more scarce. Here are just a couple of examples:

Henry Van Dyke was a very popular author of the early 1900s.  This Scribner series of his books is very art noveau in design -- each one has a similar, yet different cover.  This is a representative sample of Van Dyke's books we will be listing - as he was a very prolific author for his time.  The four shown are in good condition, and the gold cover designs are nice and bright.  Pages have discolored due to age, but are in good shape.  Most were gift copies with inscriptions. Additional information, and images, available upon request.

Storm Before Daybreak, by Marian Sims.  This book is a first edition, printed in 1946.  It is signed by the author.  The dust jacket is intact and in average condition.  The pages have some foxing and have slightly darkened with age, but the binding is tight ad the cloth cover is in good shape.  The story is about a man returning to his hometown after WWII.

How about this wonderful statue of ruggedly handsome looking unknown philosopher.  We don't know who he is, but we like him.  A great statement piece for your home.  Made from a mold in plaster, about 24" high.

Capodimonte Porcelain is considered to be among the finest Italian porcelain in the world. Capodimonte Porcelain began in the Naples area back in the early 18th century. This urn was evaluated by the company a few years ago at over $900. They said there were no craftsmen today that could make the intricate woven signature design that was so popular in their earlier pieces. Considering the fragile nature of the design, this piece has remained in near mint condition. It is over 18" high.

Tintypes -- we have a large collection of the old tintypes as well as other photographic items.  The items shown are approximately 2.5" x 3.5" and with only minor scratches that come from being taken in and out of albums and frames over the years.  The image below is probably a wedding photo as brides often wore black or dark colors.  This photo process began around 1835, and the images shown are probably from the 1890s.
